You can find our car rental in Punta Cana right at the airport, after leaving the customs. From here, you can pick up your car and start your Dominican adventure straight away. The Punta Cana area is surrounded by major resort areas, while the closest city, Higüey, is less than one hour away by car.

While this touristic area mostly features small roads, if you want to explore the rest of the country you can rely on one of the best transportation infrastructures of Latin America. The DR-3 highway, known as Autovia del Este, connects Punta Cana to the capital city of Santo Domingo, which is about two and a half hours away. From here you can access the other key highways, which connect all major towns.

The Punta Cana region is bordered by a coastline of sandy white beaches, and has a tropical climate. The area provides tourists with many water attractions, such as racing speedboats, catamaran sailing, party boats and swimming with dolphins, sharks and stingrays. You can also enjoy the beauty nature has to offer with zip-lining and other excursions, or recharge your batteries with a relaxing day at the spa.

If you prefer a more realistic experience, some tour operators offer cultural excursions to give you a better understanding of the local culture, with visits to plantations, schools and landmarks such as the Basilica in Higüey, the most important cathedral of the Altagracia province. The Basilica displays the Virgen de la Altagracia, a painting that was brought to the country by Spanish missionaries back in the fifteenth century.

In the town of La Romana, about 50 miles away from Punta Cana, you will find the original Altos de Chavón: a replica sixteenth century Mediterranean village in the heart of the Dominican countryside. The village functions as a cultural center for residents, tourists and international artists, and features studios, shops and a 5,000-seat amphitheater.
