Yesterday we told you about the first day of the Mondo.NYC conference and showcase in New York. The event brings together decision-makers from the music industry while also showcasing a range of musical acts at venues around the city. Find out more about day 1 of Mondo.NYC in our article.
SIXT is the official mobility partner of Mondo and, together with our partner gigmit, we had a contest that gave young artists the opportunity to perform at the festival. On the second day of the event, we headed to the SIXT station at LaGuardia Airport to meet up with the first winner, WAASII, a young DJ from Los Angeles.
Here we could also convince ourselves of the great service of our New York SIXT team (we say thank you for the donuts <3). We recommend!
While the Interview we traveled in a luxurious BMW X7 rental car from LaGuardia Airport in Queens to Lower Manhattan to Drom, a venue in the East Village. You can hear more from this fresh artist in an upcoming video interview.
Drom has been a place to celebrate cultural diversity for 15 years. Events range from music, dance, theater and comedy. “Drom” comes from the Gypsy language Romani and means “the journey” in English.
“One of New York City’s focal points for global music, progressive jazz, funk, electronica — you name it.” – WNYC“ This afro-Mediterranean club/bar brings welcome international flair to an otherwise mundane Alphabet City strip.” – NY MAGAZINE
The first #SIXTmusic night was packed with great bands from Montreal, Los Angeles and San Diego. The Day Dreamers, The Brink Of, We the Commas and E.J. Worland all hit the stage, with WAASII performing a DJ set as the finale.
The Day Dreamers, a four-person band from Montreal, performed with “Kay”, a young bass trumpet player who added a quirky touch to their music and was one of the highlights of the evening. Musically, the band is part of the Canadian DIY scene and has parallels to Feist.
We the Commas from San Diego, were a phenomenon that thrilled the crowd. Imagine “The Temptations” coming on stage looking like Will Smith from the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. The band plays indie rock mixed with R&B, and the singer moves as if he were in a hardcore band.
WAASII played to close the evening.
