With its breathtaking scenery and vibrant cities, Germany is a fantastic destination all year round. Whether you’re taking in the great outdoors in Bavaria or sampling Berlin’s nightlife, you will want a stress-free experience and knowing the details of your car rental insurance can really put your mind at ease. In this article we will take you through the protection options and requirements for a car rental in Germany and offer some tips on how to save money and navigate the country.
YOUR COVERAGE OPTIONS FOR RENTAL CARS IN GERMANY
THIRD-PARTY INSURANCE
Third-party insurance is included in every Sixt car rental deal in Germany and covers you in case of damage to property or injury to a third party. In the unfortunate case of an accident, the protection covers damages and personal injuries.
Loss Damage Waiver
A loss damage waiver comes into effect in the event of damage to or loss of the rental vehicle with a deductible that depends on the vehicle. This takes away concerns about any significant financial liabilities if you cannot prove the third party is liable. The loss damage waiver also includes theft protection that can bring you peace of mind when leaving your vehicle unattended.
Personal Accident Protection, Tire and Windshield Protection, Roadside Protection
Our personal accident protection coverage option gives you limited liability for invalidity, in case of death and for medical costs that arise. With our tire and windshield coverage, you are protected from damage to these parts of your vehicle, while roadside protection means Sixt will incur the costs of a self-inflicted breakdown.
LIMITATIONS OF COVERAGE
When booking online always check the territorial restrictions of where you can take your rental car from your chosen branch. In Europe, we divide the countries into three zones and your selection of vehicle category can restrict your travel between countries. If you do not follow the restrictions your coverage is void. All protection as part of the rental contract will become void if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver’s license at the time of the event giving rise to claim. If you require further information your branch manager will be happy to discuss your coverage when arriving at your pick-up location.
The scope of roadside protection covers loss of keys, stuck vehicles, keys locked in the car, breakdowns due to lack of fuel and assistance with starting a dead battery. All services must be ordered by making a direct claim to the Sixt 24-hour Roadside Assistance. Also, be aware that the renter is liable for any damages that occur to the rental vehicle that is not covered under roadside protection.
