With a combination of beauty, power and speed, sports cars never cease to put stars in the eyes of young and old alike. Ever since the first fast car was built (the Bugatti Type 41 Royale, which appeared in the 1920s and reached speeds of up to 124 miles per hour), the speedometer has never stopped climbing. Today, the fastest cars drive faster than the French TGV (199 mph). Jaguar, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari… So many legendary brands that have helped to challenge the law of gravity. In 2022, the fastest cars in the world are beating all the record speeds and reinventing our dream of driving even faster. In the real world, the chances of us driving such cars anywhere but Forza Horizon are slim. But for the time being, let’s take a moment to marvel at these vehicle with a need for speed from the safety of a screen.
1. BUGATTI BOLIDE : +310 MPH (Estimated)
Price of the Bugatti Bolide: $4.3 million
Number of cars produced: 40
The (probable) fastest car in the world is French. Of course, the 310 mph announced by the manufacturer are – for the moment – hypothetical. But knowing Bugatti’s history and its ability to make extreme cars, there is little doubt this speed can be reached, and its prototype is promising. Whatever the case, the answer will be in 2024, the year the Bugatti Bolide is produced. While waiting for the Bolide to prove itself on the road, it has already won the Grand Prix for the most beautiful hypercar of 2021.
2. BUGATTI CHIRON SUPER SPORT 300+ : 304 MPH
Price of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport: $3.8 million
Number of cars produced: 30
What is the fastest car in the world? At least the fastest car with a proven track record? It’s the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+! An even more muscular version of the original Bugatti Chiron, the Super Sport 300+ is the first supercar to exceed 300 mph.
3. KOENIGSEGG JESKO ABSOLUTE: 300 MPH
Price of the Koenigsegg Jesko: $3.3 million
Number of cars produced: About 60
The Swedish supercar was born to defy gravity and beat the Bugatti Chiron, and it’s the fastest Koenigsegg. With a 5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, it has 1,600 hp (100 more than the “classic” Jesko). And Christian von Koenigsegg is probably not finished surprising us.
4. SSC TUATARA : 283 MPH
Price of the SSC Tuatara: $2.4 million
Number of copies: 100
The SSC Tuatara made a big splash in 2020 when it was announced as “The car that travels at more than 500 km/h” (532 precisely, or 331 mph). The manufacturer backtracked a few months later, admitting that the Tuatara had never exceeded 500 km/h (310 mph). Finally, the “little sister” of the SSC Ultimate Aero has a (moderate) speed of 283 mph, which is already incredible!
5. KOENIGSEGG AGERA RS: 278 MPH
Price of the Koenigsegg Agera RS: $2.4 million
Number of cars produced: 25
The Swedish brand is back on the list with with another extraordinary supercar. Equipped with the same engine, it has about 500 horsepower less. But that doesn’t stop it from performing, going from 0 to 250 mph to 0 in 36.44 seconds. Amazing.
6. HENNESSEY VENOM F5 : 272 MPH
Price of the Hennessey Venom F5: $2.1 million
Number of cars produced: 24
It is still only in the testing phase and yet it already promises incredible performance. In March 2022, it reached 272 mph. The manufacturer does not intend to stop there and aims to exceed 310 mph. Its twin-turbo V8 of 6.6 l and 1,917 horsepower should be able to push to a new record.
7. BUGATTI VEYRON 16.4 SUPER SPORT : 268 MPH
Price of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport: $2.5 million
Number of cars produced: 48
Bugatti builds cars the way it sets records: By the book. In the case of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, this feat was achieved by driver Pierre-Henri Raphanel and certified by the Guinness World Records. This sporty jewel of power has made the hearts of many car lovers beat faster.
8. RIMAC NEVERA : 256 MPH
Price of the Rimac Nevera: $2.2 million
Number of cars produced: 150
The Rimac Nevera electrifies the road, and that’s an understatement. The second vehicle from the Croatian manufacturer, the electric hypercar is revolutionizing the automotive world. It may be low, but with its 1,914 horsepower, it sees things in a big way. This exceptional car has 4 electric motors and goes from 0 to 186 mph in less than 10 seconds.
9. MCLAREN SPEEDTAIL : 250 MPH
Price of the McLaren Speedtail: $2.3 million
Number of cars produced: 106
McLaren enters the race for the fastest car with the Speedtail, which has a top speed of over 249 mph. Inspired by the F1, it was designed to perform and dazzle. And it features something else small but original: central driving.
10. KOENIGSEGG GEMERA: 249 MPH
Price of the Koenigsegg Gemera: $1.4 million
Number of cars produced: 300
In the third appearance of the Swedish Koenigsegg our list, the Gemera is prestigious enough to be noticed. A “small” hybrid of almost 16.4 feet, it runs on a combustion engine and 3 electric motors. Its originality does not stop there: It does not have a gearbox. The Koenigsegg Gemera does nothing like the others; no wonder its name means “to rule” in Swedish.
