How can I open the bike?

Frame lock

  • After you have selected your bike, press “start journey” in the SIXT app. Then scan the QR code and press “unlock”. The frame lock will open automatically. If the bike won't open, check whether a spoke is blocking the lock by turning the rear wheel slightly. Then open it via the app.
  • If the frame lock does not open even after another attempt to open it via the app, our system will automatically detect this after three minutes and will cancel the journey without any extra costs.

Fork lock & bike computer

  • To unlock the bike, enter the 4-digit code shown in the SIXT app into the bike's board computer and remove the fork lock from the front wheel of the bike. You can now start your journey.

How can I park my bike during a journey?

Frame lock:

If the bike has a frame lock, tap on the “P” button in the SIXT app. Then click on “start parking” followed by “confirm parking” and manually lock your bike. This way the bike will enter into a pause status. Please keep in mind that the minutes spent in a pause status will also be charged. To resume your booking, click “end parking” and the lock will open automatically. 

Fork lock & bike computer

If the bike has a digital screen and a fork lock, press the “P” button in the SIXT app, as well as “start parking” and close the fork lock. To continue biking, open the SIXT app and click “end parking”, then enter the PIN code provided in your SIXT app into the bike’s digital screen and remove the fork lock.

Where can I park a bike during the journey?

Parking is possible in all areas (business area and paid business area). The price per minute will not change regardless of where you park. Once you have resumed your journey from a parking mode, please make sure you find a valid area to return the bike (business area or paid business area).

How do I end my journey?

After making sure that you are returning your bike in a business area or in a paid business area, please follow the instructions below:

Frame lock

If the bike has a frame lock, tap “end journey” in the app; afterwards close the lock manually. Complete these steps and you have ended your journey.

Fork lock & digital screen

If the bike has a digital screen and a fork lock, tab “end journey” in the app, then close the lock and confirm the return by pressing "OK" on the bike's digital screen.

Where can I return my bike?

Bikes can be returned free of charge within the business area shown in the app, or in a paid business area, where a small fee will be added to the final price of your booking. You will be able to see the areas with extra fees on the map in the SIXT app.

Can I return the bike in a different city than where I picked it up?

The bike can only be returned in the city the journey was started in. If the journey is ended in another city, a service fee will apply.

How much does my nextbike journey cost?

Depending on the city, available tariffs and prices may differ. You will pay a certain amount per period of time; as soon as you exceed the time period, you pay a higher amount. For example, €1|30 minutes means you pay €1 for the first 30 minutes, and from 31-60 minutes you pay €2, etc.  There is a maximum price per day, depending on the city where you are making the booking, like €9 per 24 hours, €12 per 24 hours, etc. You will be able to see the pricing that corresponds to your city as soon as you select or tap on a bike in the SIXT app.

The final price of my booking doesn’t look right. Who can I contact?

Please feel free to contact nextbike directly to review the final price of your booking.

How and when will I receive my invoice?

You will receive a confirmation email from SIXT right after your journey. At the end of the month, you will receive one collective invoice, which includes all invoices from the journeys made during the respective month. You can download your collective invoice through the SIXT app. 

Why was I charged an extra fee?

If you returned the bike in a paid business area or outside the business area, fees are added to your journey.

Does nextbike offer helmets?

We do not provide helmets. Please make sure to bring your own.

What happens if there is a problem with the bike?

If you have found a bike that has a defect, look for the next available bike near you. If your bike is damaged during the journey, please contact nextbike customer service through the SIXT app.

How can I report damage to the bike?
