How does renting an e-moped via the SIXT app work?

To rent an e-moped via the SIXT app, you need the latest version of the SIXT app. In the tab "Share" you can see all available electric e-mopeds in the business area. You can rent them directly via the app and start driving. You can end the rental again within the business area, and while you are driving you can leave the business area.

What are the requirements for booking e-moped in the SIXT app?

  • You are at least 18 years old and in possession of a driver's license.
  • Registration in the SIXT app as well as the one-time upload of your documents (driver's license, ID, selfie) required.
  • Upload a valid method of payment in the SIXT app (VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, JCB).

Why do I see an e-moped in the street, but it is not available in the app?

This can be due to three reasons:

  • It has already been booked: Another user has reserved the vehicle before you and will now collect it within the 15 minutes margin provided.
  •  It’s low on battery: We want you to reach your destination without any setbacks, so we don’t show vehicles that are low on battery.
  •  It is under maintenance: Cooltra mechanics are on their way to inspect it.

How do I start the e-moped?

First, you need to find the e-moped closest to you and reserve it via the SIXT app. You will have 15 min to get to your chosen e-moped and start the journey. Once you’re ready to start:

  • Click "start ride” in the SIXT app to unlock the e-moped.
  • Look for the “open” button in the back of the trunk and press it to access the helmets.
  • Put the e-moped down from its central stand.
  • Press the “Start” button on the e-moped to turn it on (depending on the model, it is either the red button on the e-moped´s handlebar, or a button at the height of the right knee).

Do I need to bring my own helmet?

It is not necessary. Each moped comes with two helmets of two different sizes. To access them, unlock the vehicle in the SIXT app and then press the bottom button on the back of the trunk that says “open”. In addition to the helmets, you will find hygienic wipes and the e-moped´s documents.

Can others book an e-moped using my account?

No, only you can ride under your username. Allowing other users or people to book using your account is punished with a €100 fine, as described in Cooltra´s Terms and Conditions.

What happens if my mobile runs out of battery?

Always make sure you have your phone charged because you need the SIXT app to start and end your ride. If you run out of battery while riding your e-moped, you can press the vehicle’s ‘Start’ button for 30 seconds until it turns off; this will automatically set your ride in ‘Pause’ mode until you can charge the phone or get in touch with Cooltra to finish the ride remotely. Can I drive wherever I want?

You can ride the e-moped on all roads where 50cc mopeds are allowed. Remember that you must park the e-moped inside the business area showing in the SIXT app. Before starting your ride, take the e-moped range into account so you can finish your ride within this area.

Can I stop for a while during the ride?

Sure. If you need to stop for a while, just press the ‘Park’ button in the SIXT app.

Where and how can I end my booking?

Once you reach your destination, park the e-moped in the area allowed, put the helmets in the top case/seat, and press the ‘end ride’ button in the SIXT app. Make sure you park the e-moped correctly – within the authorized area shown on the SIXT app map and in a place where it is allowed by city hall regulations.

What should I do if I cannot end my booking?

Where can I start and end my journey?

Although you can move around freely in your city, vehicle pick-up and parking areas are limited. This is the area that is shown in a lighter color in the SIXT app map. To end your ride, you must always park within the designated area and avoid the red areas which are not permitted. On the other hand, you have to take each city’s parking regulations into account. Users are solely responsible for correctly parking the vehicle they use and will be liable for any sanctions from the authorities resulting from improper use.

What should I do if I find a fine in the e-moped?

If you find a fine upon arrival at the vehicle, don’t worry; keep it inside the top case/seat of the e-moped. Cooltra is able to identify the user who has parked the e-moped incorrectly and who must therefore pay the fine.

What happens if I commit a violation while using the Cooltra e-moped?

While using the vehicle, you are solely responsible for any violation committed from the moment you end the booking until another user starts a new one, including any fines resulting from incorrect parking. The Cooltra team will identify the responsible user, who will then receive the fine and handle it.
