How does car sharing work? Car sharing is very simple: you reserve one of the cars available on the next street corner using your smartphone, open it with the app, get in and drive off. To end the rental, simply park the vehicle again within the business area and end the rental via the app.
In order to be able to use a car spontaneously at any time, a one-time, simple registration process in the SIXT app is necessary and you then have 24/7 access to all vehicles.

This is how the app works
- Simply open the SHARE tab in the SIXT app and select your desired car on the map.
- Select "Reserve now"
- The vehicle is now reserved for 15 minutes free of charge
- The reservation can be easily extended (max. €0.12 / min.) and is possible for a maximum of 12 hours.
Tip for early risers: The reservation is free from Sunday to Thursday, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day.
What do you want? Small and fast? Big and spacious? Combustion engine or electric? We have everything.
- Select the desired vehicle in the app
- Reserve the vehicle or rent it directly
- Click on "open" using the app to start the rental
- The vehicle opens
- Enter PIN
- Press the start/stop button to start the vehicle's engine
Would you like to take a break? This works as follows:
- Park the vehicle and switch it off
- Use the key (in the glove compartment) to lock the car
- The rental continues in parking mode
- The vehicle is not available to others during this period
Note: If you stop or leave the engine switched off for more than 10 minutes, the SIXT app will ask you to enter your PIN again. This is done for security reasons and unlocks the immobilizer.
- Ending the journey is only possible in the rental country.
- Park the vehicle in the business area or permitted locations.
- Hourly, daily and kilometer packages can only be booked via the SIXT app.
- Tap on the "share" tab and click on the desired vehicle to start the booking process.
- You will then see all available packages. Select your preferred package and click “next”.
While you are making your selection, we will hold the car for you, free of charge, for 15 minutes. Before the 15 minutes are up, go to the vehicle and unlock it using the app. Your package starts when you tap on "Open vehicle" in the app.
In the SIXT App, you will find all reported damages of a vehicle. Just click on "Damages" after having reserved the vehicle to view those.

*** 10 € SIXT share voucher: valid for new customers without an existing SIXT account and for the use of SIXT share car sharing in Germany or Netherlands; valid for 45 days from registration in the app, however the latest vehicle pick-up must be by January 31, 2025; third-party providers excluded; no cash payout possible; voucher can only be redeemed once per person and only for one trip, any remaining credit expires; if only an extended reservation is made but no trip is made, the voucher cannot be used; passing on to third parties or selling the voucher is prohibited; offer can be changed without prior notice. SIXT share vouchers can only be redeemed in the country, where they have been issued.
