The I-85 Express Lane in Georgia is accessible between just south of the I-285 northeast of Atlanta and where the I-85 Extension starts in Gwinnett County. There are multiple entrances and exits. The I-85 is extremely transited and this express lane helps avoid heavy traffic when entering and exiting Atlanta from the northeast. The I-85 Express Lane Extension is a 10 mile extension to the existing I-85 Express Lanes for transit in and out of Atlanta. They begin at the north of the existing I-85 at Old Peachtree Road and extend to Hamilton Mill Road. These tolls are charged separately. Always make sure to enter the express lanes correctly without crossing over the double white lines to avoid any toll violations. There are various entrances and exits both north and southbound throughout the 10 miles. When heading north you may enter or exit at Lawrenceville Suwanee Road, I-985, SR 20 Buford Drive and Hamilton Mill Road. As for the southbound exits, you’ll find them at SR 20 Buford Drive, Lawrenceville Suwanee Road, Old Peachtree Road and the continuation onto I-85 Express Lanes. The vehicles traveling with 3 or more person carpools are allowed to transit with a Peach Pass on the express lanes toll-free.

The express lanes on south I-75 are additional lanes that are reversible throughout the day. They travel northbound in the morning and southbound in the evening Sunday to Friday to improve the traffic flow for commuters into Atlanta. On Saturday the operating hours are the opposite. The South Metro Express Lanes are closed from 11AM to 1.30PM and from 11PM to 1AM on all days. The access points are north of State Route 155, north of State Route 20, Jonesboro Road and south of State Route 138. You may be subject to a toll violation if you enter or exit the express lane incorrectly, such as crossing the double white lines.

The Northwest Corridor Express Lanes are reversible toll lanes improving the travel north of Atlanta. These reversible lanes generally travel southbound in the morning and northbound in the evening. However, on Saturdays the direction of the express lanes are only southbound. You’ll find access points at Hickory Grove Rd, Big Shanty Rd, Roswell Rd, Terrell Mill Rd and north of Akers Mill Rd on the I-75 and at Chastain Rd, Alabama Rd and south of Sixes Rd on the I-575. If you wish to avoid driving and paying the toll, there are transit options for the Northwest Corridor Express Lane. There are Xpress buses and registered vanpools that make the trip to and from Atlanta on the express lanes. There are multiple “Park and Ride” lots along the I-75 and the I-575 where you can leave your vehicle and take the Xpress bus.
